After trying last year’s 1級 test, I realised (yet again) that my 漢字・語彙・文字 is not good enough.

But the worst part was(やっぱり) 長文. My speed at reading the first question (30+ mins) was too slow and although I’d done the grammar section first fairly quickly, I missed 40% of the marks in the paper due to not even having time to see the other 長文 quesitons.

So, improve vocab/kanji & more importantly, speed up skim reading/comprehension of longer reading passages.

Thinking positively, I scored 90% on the listening part of the test, so it can’t be all bad (‘_’?)…ン?ええ

  1. I hope you meant 30 seconds and not 30 minutes!

  2. I meant 30 minutes.

  3. I just did last years test. And got 273 which is just under the passing mark. Not bad considering I stopped studying a few months ago but not good considering this is about what I got the last time I took the real test 10 years ago. Seems like I have made no improvements.. 🙁
Surprisingly, I did pretty good on the reading comprehension part and not surprisingly really bad on the grammar and kanji parts. I’m going to spend the next few weeks concentrating on grammar to see if I can’t increase my score to squeak by…
For the reading comprehension part, I suggest you do the grammar first and get it out of the way.

  4. Oops, sorry I see that you did do the grammar first.

  5. Yes, I have finished all the level 1 grammar and expect to score fairly well on that section. Unfortunately, the points are more heavily weighted towards the reading sections.
Sounds like we should combine powers. I am terrible at the reading sections. This is mostly because of speed, but in turn, this is because of my lack of kanji/vocab knowledge.
Interestingly you say you did well at the reading parts but not well at the kanji/vocab.
